Porsche 911 PD3

The German tuning firm Prior Design has just released a new aero package based on the track ready Porsche 911 GT3 called the 911 PD3 that includes a big mouth front bumper complete with carbon fiber blades on either side, brake cooling ducts made out of the lightweight wavy black stuff and and a very exotic splitter made from the space age material. Out back, the GT3 benefits from a new purpose built rear diffuser designed to channel the air passing under the Porsche straight out the back and along with the larger GT style wing keep the back end planted at speed.
Prior Design is also offering customers the opportunity to increase performance with a hand made stainless steel exhaust system that was developed in house to let the high revving flat six breathe a little easier. Meanwhile the chassis rests 30 mm lower than from the factory efectively eliminating any wheel gap between the deep dish three piece mesh rims and the fenders while lowering the cars center of gravity and increasing the car’s ability to take turns quickly, following the old saying "slow in fast out". Except the PD3 can do it even faster.

Right at the start of the New Year, PRIOR-Design presented its latest aerodynamic achievement. The goal of the new aerodynamic package wasn’t to reinvent the wheel. The motto was actually complete perfection. With this aim in mind, the PRIOR designers have succeeded in a reinterpretation of the Porsche 911 GT3, which has changed it from being a ‘straightforward’ sports car into an exclusive super sports car – the Porsche 911 PD3!

In detail: thanks to its design, the revised front section ensures an improved supply of fresh air as well as improved levels of downforce. The single most important factor behind these results is the revised dispersal of the air flows through the carbon spoiler blade and the carbon inlets. With the help of the sd-value enhancing sills, the side line of the GT3 is guided seamlessly to the rear, ending at a rear section which is also new. Along with its visuals, the rear section also offers advantages in terms of driving stability and air supply. These improvements have been achieved by a diffusor which contains two integrated carbon fins. The end of the muffler is completely enclosed, which additionally optimises the aerodynamic attributes. Air inlets which are positioned on the left and the right, are additionally strengthened with two carbon inlets. The GT3 wing, designed in Stuttgart, was judged to be sound by the PRIOR-Design team and therefore remains unchanged. The materials used in the 911 PD3 aerodynamics programme correspond with PRIOR-Design’s latest technological advances. A newly developed carbon-flex fibre glass composite was used, which both saves weight at the same time as offering a maximum level of strength and sufficient flexibility. This means that the necessary level of stability is guaranteed at speeds both up to and beyond 300 km/h.

To convey a genuine feeling of individuality and perfection, along with the aerodynamic and visual aspects, it was necessary for the subjective vehicles dynamic feeling in the form of noise and handling characteristics to be completed. This also includes the option of an in-house designed, hand-made stainless steel exhaust system, which in addition to a positive performance development also offers the driver a virtuoso driving experience over the full rev range, all the way up to 8,400 revs/min.In addition to this, an ultra light, multi-section forged wheel that has been developed according to the toughest requirements is also available. This can be developed in a choice of different dimensions on the basis of customer request, and due to its variable size, offers an improved distribution of performance and road handling. The adapted chassis means that the body is now some 30 millimetres closer to the road surface, and the deeper centre of gravity that results improves both the handling and feedback of the vehicle without compromising the levels of driving comfort in any way.

gemballa tuned ferrari enzo

In the last 27 years, Uwe Gemballa has achieved the best world-wide reputation for refining Porsche cars. Now, the company manager from Leonberg near Stuttgart takes on a new challenge. The automobile manufacturer turns the most potent super sports car from Maranello, the Ferrari Enzo, into the GEMBALLA MIG-U1 – an individually produced edition, limited to only 25 cars.

The core part of the overall makeover is the entirely re-engineered aerodynamics concept by GEMBALLA. Without any exception, the manufacturer produces all components in real carbon in order to combine lowest weight with highest material strength.
Active aerodynamics for the maximum driving experienceOwing to the active aerodynamics conception, the front spoiler lip generates an additional downthrust of up to 35 kilograms at the front axle, according to the individual position. Analogically, the flap on the newly designed rear spoiler generates even up to 85 kilograms more downthrust on the rear wheels. For optimal handling results, the flap lowers, as soon as the car reaches a speed of 120 km/h. In this way, the GEMBALLA-aerodynamics concept adjusts to the outer conditions and always ensures perfect road holding characteristics. All components of the aerodynamics kit attribute to this: starting from the new front skirt with spoiler lip, over the door extensions to the diffuser and rear spoiler.

The air duct system of the GEMBALLA MIG-U1 does not only help bringing the power of the twelve-cylinder car onto the road. At the same time, the engineers from Leonberg (Baden-Württemberg) develop an extensive ventilation- and cooling concept. Here, both the front and the back wheel-houses are supplied with cooling air and this guarantees an optimal use of the high performance braking system. The outlets behind the wheels ensure that the heated air does not pile up. Moreover, the air inlets behind the doors and on the roof supply fresh air into engine compartment behind the passenger cabin. The newly designed air exhaust ducts end in and on top of the rear skirt. Their dimensions also allow the supply of an additional radiator.
The GEMBALLA car body components therefore guarantee the functionality of the new super sports car and provide the car with a unique look at the same time. Following the design of Formula-1 racing cars, the GEMBALLA MIG-U1 has an extended front and an edged rear spoiler. Formerly rounded edges were replaced in order to provide the car with an aggressive look with greedy air inlets and outlets.

Even the rear lights do not remain openly on the back, but are cased and equipped with air ducts. The MIG-U1 grows broader by 80 millimetres at the front- and 100 millimetres at the back axle.
For everyday use, the optional electro-hydraulic height-adjustment (HLS) is extremely innovative and enormously helpful. By pushing a button in the passenger compartment, it is possible to lift the body by 45 millimetres at the front- and rear axle and therefore allows driving over obstacles such as underground car park entrances and traffic ramps. Also by pushing a button or by reaching 80 km/h, the MIG-U1 lowers itself to its original level. Additionally, the multiple adjustable sports suspension which is equipped with ball bearing bushes significantly improves the handling and driving comfort of the MIG-U1.
The forged wheels GEMBALLA GTR RACING forged by our development partner “Advanced Structural Alloys” contribute both to the appearance and the performance of the car. The wheels which are made from a massive light alloy block combined highest stability with an extremely light weight. The elaborate forging process reduces the unsprung masses of one wheel set by 16 kilograms. Therefore, the wheels respond in an even more agile way and precisely follow every steering command even under highest strains. At the front, the 10x19 inch rims hold high-performance wheels in the dimension 265/35, while the back axle transfers the power of the engine through 13x20 inch rims with 335/30 wheels.
The twelve cylinder engine of the GEMBALLA MIG-U1 works with an optimised motor management and an especially adjusted exhaust system. This combination allows a performance output of 700 hp (515 kW). The four-pipe system with pneumatic flap control is added to the sports catalyser. The end-pipes are equipped with the typical GEMBALLA heat shield and share the exit into the rear skirt with the exhaust ducts of the rear wheel houses.

High-End for the interiorIn the interior, GEMBALLA devises a control centre which perfectly combines functionality and comfort. The especially for the GEMBALLA MIG-U1 designed seats, the custom-made centre console and the sports steering wheel with its leather-ultra suede combination guarantee full control over the car. At the same time, the interior of this super sports car reflects pure luxury. All interior components are lined with leather and ultra suede. The integrated high-end multimedia system offers a seven-inch touch screen, navigation, DVD changer and an iPod connection. The 950-Watt amplifier operates the high frequency ranges in the cockpit front, the 165 millimetre large membrane on the door linings and the subwoofer between the seats. GEMBALLA-logos on the seats, the floor mats and the safety belts perfect the refinement.
With the GEMBALLA MIG-U1, the automobile manufacturer once again proves that its know-how is not only limited to Porsche cars. On the basis of the already exhilarating Ferrari Enzo, the engineers developed a unique car. But even the limited edition with only 25 cars is not exclusive enough for GEMBALLA. Therefore, every single GEMBALLA MIG-U1 is individually adjusted. This ensures that there will not be any identical cars. Therefore, the specialist with its reputation for unique high-end refinement once again meets the requirements for highest individuality.

AUDI R8 TDI LE MANS

Audi presented a new r8 concept at the Geneva Motor Show 2008 based on the Audi R8. The Audi R8 TDI Le Mans which is the first 12-cylinder diesel engine in a high-performance roadgoing sports car .the Audi R8 TDI is powered by a 6 liter 12 cylinder diesel engine, enough for 500hp and 1.000 Nm of torque. Sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and the topspeed exceeds 300 km/h. The V12 TDI in the R8 Le Mans concept is closely related to the V12 TDI that can be found in the two-time Le Mans winner, the Audi R10. Peak torque is reached at only 1.750 rpm which should enable effortless acceleration.

The R8 TDI Le Mans is painted in Brilliant Red color and looks even wider and more resolute than the core model. It features muscular proportions, accentuated wheel arches and even larger air apertures. Typical of the side view of the R8 is the sideblade. Much wider in the bottom third, it visually accentuates the engine’s position as well as acting as an enlarged air deflector.

The continuous aluminum spoiler lip that connects the front and rear diffusers with side air baffles below the enlarged sills also pays tribute to this version’s highly developed dynamic talents.
The interior’s design is as sporty and exclusive as the exterior: the characteristic element here is the monoposto – an expansive arc running around the steering wheel and instruments, connecting the driver to the car. The interior consequently picks up on the dynamism of the R8 TDI Le Mans and gives it tactile expression in a form that is accessible the moment you climb in.

VIDEO's BLOG: KEIICHI TSUCHIYA time attack on tsukuba circuit

When Keiichi Tsuchiya announced his retirement from professional racing at the end of the 2003 season. To honor his glorious career, Hot Version organized a Special Run in Tsukuba Event. For his more than 5000 fans that showed up, it was their last chance to see Tsuchiya race in person. The finale of the day was giving Keiichi a final chance to break the GT car Tsukuba time attack record. He had two tries earlier in the day with the morning runs scheduled to test and tune the car in preparation for the afternoon finale. Before the event, Piston Nishizawa, the event’s emcee, tried to persuade Tsuchiya to reserve his strength but he pushed his #8 NSX and broke the 53 second flat record set by Satoshi Motoyam in the Pennzoil JGTC Skyline GT-R! You can’t tell Keiichi Tsuchiya to reserve his strength. This guy goes full blast when he wants too. So naturally Tsuchiya made the afternoon session to break his own record. Right before the time attack some snow started to fall and the temperature dropped. Watch this part of the full video i found on you tube, and witness history…

CAR'S BLOG: the VW 1303 RS

One of my friends always asked me to publish anything about the VW beetle, and at last i found this. the VW 1303 RS that was built and driven in a way that makes it unique as any other car. you would expect high horsepower, dialed in suspension, wide wheels and overall vib from a porshe 911 and not from an air cooled beetle. this car has a website dedicated to it but in german. so i searched until i found it written in english on speedhunters blog. the car was built on a 1973 1303 "super beetle" chasis, and it sees action on streets, racing tracks and even in drifting events

the car has a type 4 VW beetle engine of 2.4L producing 182 hp. it also has a pair of 48IDF Weber carburetors plus K & N airFilters, also the Cylinder heads and crankshafts are processed among other additions such as : oil cooler, transistor ignition, stainless steel exhaust cup. it is also found that the car compression is 10:1. this speeding bullet has a top speed aorund 200km/h and fires from 0 to 100 in 5.5 sec.

the car has a VW 1303 RS adjustable height, front and rear stabilizers mounted in aluminium, Front: Koni, rear: Bilstein shocks with Eibach springs.
Inside is a full roll cage, Recaro bucket seat, and a suede Momo wheel. Not things you typically find in a car like this...

giving the car an aggressive, track-ready look are a set of 15x8.5 BBS wheels with 195/45/15 tires.

It's always special when someone can take a universally-known car like the VW Beetle and make something that truly stands out.

DRIVER'S BLOG:sabine schmitz the Queen of the Nürburgring

Sabine Schmitz a professional motor racing driver for BMW was born in 14 May 1969, now known for driving the BMW "Ring taxi" around the Nürburgring race track as well as being a television personality. she was born to the local hotel and restaurant owning Schmitz family, Sabine and her two elder sisters grew up in the "Hotel am Tiergarten" in Nürburg within the Nürburgring Nordschleife. she trained as Hotelfachfrau and Sommelière. she lived in Pulheim During her marriage to a hotelier, but after her divorce in 2000, up until 2003, she owned a bar-restaurant in Nürburg named the Fuchsröhre (Foxhole) after a track section. In 2004 she was qualified as a helicopter pilot. Following occasional drives with the family car on the Nordschleife, all three sisters started racing, but only Sabine continued and collected victories. Sabine won in CHC and VLN race events, the VLN endurance racing championship in 1998, and she is the first woman to win a major 24h race, the 24 Hours Nürburgring, in 1996 and 1997, all with a BMW M3 entered and co-driven by local veteran Johannes Scheid. In 2006 Sabine and Klaus Abbelen drove the #97 Porsche 997 in the Nürburgring VLN endurance racing series, entered by Land Motorsport. They finished a strong third in the 24h 2008, beaten only by the factory-backed Manthey-entered winners of 2007 and 2006. Sabine came to mass public attention driving one of the two BMW M5 "Ring taxi" around the 20.8 km long race track in an entertaining manner.

According to her own estimates, Sabine has gone around the track more than 20,000 times, increasing by approximately 1200 per year. Her familiarity with the circuit earned her the nicknames "Queen of the Nürburgring" and "the fastest taxi driver in the world". She says her favourite parts of the track are Schwedenkreuz and Fuchsröhre.
Claudia Hürtgen is her main rival, winning the championship in 2006, and scoring pole and victory in the third VLN race of 2008, with a BMW Z4.
Her company, Nürburgring-based Sabine Schmitz Motorsport, offers advanced driver training and a "Ring Taxi" service for passengers.

As a result of her popularity as "the fastest taxi driver in the world", Sabine became an occasional motorsport guest commentator, known for her gleefully dry descriptions of driving incidents. Since September 2006, Sabine has co-hosted a motoring show on German television, D Motor on the DMAX TV channel. In each show, Sabine takes on another challenge, for example Sabine in a Ferrari 360 vs. a 1200hp Race Truck, or Sabine in a Formula Renault race car vs. a race sidecar.
In December 2004, Schmitz gained recognition in the United Kingdom after appearing in the BBC television show Top Gear with presenter Jeremy Clarkson. On her only attempt, using the same car, she beat his best lap time of 9 minutes 59 seconds in a Jaguar S-Type diesel by 47 seconds, having castigated his best lap with the comment "I tell you something, I could do that lap time in a van".
Thus, in her second appearance on Top Gear, she actually drove a Ford Transit in an attempt to beat Clarkson's time set in the Jaguar S-Type diesel. Her final time with the Transit stripped (hub caps, spare tyre, toolkit and Richard Hammond removed, and they also drove a Dodge Viper in front to help slipstream or draft the aerodynamically challenged van) was 10 minutes and 8 seconds. When trying to film Schmitz, the team couldn't keep up so they used Jaguar test driver Wolfgang Schubauer to drive the Jaguar S-Type R chase car.
Her third appearance was at the 2005 Top Gear Awards to collect the award for 'Best German'.
In 2007, she appeared in Clarkson's Supercar Showdown DVD where she raced an Audi R8 against The Stig in a Porsche 911 GT3.
Schmitz also appeared in the sixth episode of the Top Gear's 11th series, in a competition between the German motoring show she co-presents, and the British Top Gear team. Both groups engaged each other in a series of challenges, in which Schmitz raced the Top Gear team in a double decker car race, and Clarkson in a one-on-one Mini challenge. She was victorious in both her events, however due to the timely intervention of The Stig the overall result was a win for the Top Gear.......

Lexus LF-A 2010

The Lexus LF-A was shown at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show. The Toyota built super car is a limited production super car of 500 units only, each priced at $375,000, and the first deliveries won’t be made until early 2011.

As you might already know, the LF-A is powered by a 4.8 liter V10 engine that delivers 560 HP at 9,000 RPM and torque of 354 lb-ft at 6,800 RPM, with 90% of the total torque being available between the 3,700 RPM mark and the super car’s 9,000 RPM red line. As a result of such a road torque curve, the LF-A can sprint from 0 to 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds and won’t stop until it reaches a top speed of 202 MPH.

In order to ensure that the LF-A handles as well as it goes in a straight line, the Lexus design team incorporated lightweight materials like aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys and titanium alloys as well as some carbon fiber to ensure that the LF-A is as rigid as possible while maintaining a low curb weight. Even the new super car’s power plant is compact in size, smaller than a conventional V8, which allowed the Toyota engineers to design the LF-A with the optimal weight distribution and an exceptional power to weight ratio. Thus giving Nissan and their GT-R super car something to watch out for.

AUTOPEDIA everything you need to know PT.3 (B)

Clutch disk: in a manual transmission, it's a spinning plate located at the end of driveshafts facing the engine and covered with an organic material surface. when the clutch is engaged. the disk is gradually forced against the flywheel. causing the engine and the tranmission to turn at the same speed with a smooth transition
Clutch pedal: it's the 3rd pedal on the left of the brake pedal located on the floor of manual transmission cars. when it is depressed. it disengages the clutch allowing the driver to change gears.
coil springs: large metal coils that cushion and absorb the shocks and bumps as the car is driven. they work with the gasfilled shock absorber to keep the car on an even keel while given you the smoothest ride possible.
Combustion: it is the burning of fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber generating power in an engine.
Combustion chamber: part of cylender within an engine block where fuel/air mixture are compressed by piston and ignited by spark from the spark-plug.
Compression ratio: ratio between the two volume extremes of the combustion chamber. this cylenders's cubic volume is measured when the piston is at the top and buttom of it's stroke. the higher this ratio, the higher octane rating required by your engine to prevent pre-ignition under load.
Connecting rods: metal rod that connects the pstion to the cranckshaft and converts the up and down motion of a piston into a circular motion of the crankshaft. under tremendous load and extensive wear the rod can break and break throught the engine block , this is called "throwing a rod".
Constant veloctiy joints: found mostly in FWD cars and on some RWD cars with independent rear suspension systems. these special joints transmit engine power while allowing full steering and suspension movements. they are covered in a black accordion boots that protect joints and hold grease.
Control arms: the upper or lowers A shaped suspension components that are on the fraim and support the ball joints and steering knuckles.
Coolant: solution that raises the boiling point and lowers the freezing point of water in cooling system to prevent rust and corrosion , lubricate the system components, it is often called antifreez.
Cooling system: system the stores and circulates the coolant through the engine to prevent overheating. some cars have air-cooled engines in which air rushing by metals heat dispensing plates is sufficient to cool the engine.
Cranck case: lower part of engine block that houses the crankshaft and it's surrounding parts. the car's oil pan.into which the drain plug is screwed is attached to the cranck case.
Cranking: act of engaging starter by turning the key into the ignitionswitch making the engine to turn over. in the past this was done bye means of hand cranck.
Cranckshaft: main rotating shaft in engine transfering the piston up and down motion into a smooth circular motion of the cranck shaft that is then used to drive the transmission and eventually the wheels.
Crankshaft pulley: a grooved wheel attached at the front end of the shaft that is connected by an accessory belts to the fan, alternator, power steering pump, water pump, air conditioning compressor. and other devices so that rotating cranck shaft can drive these other parts as well.the shaft pulley usually has timing marks on it which is necessary for adjusting time with timing light. also called a harmonic balanced wheel.
Cranckshaft sensor: trigger device that tells the ignition module when to fire the spark plug on car with distributorless ignition systems.
Cruise control: optional feature that keeps your car cruising at a present speed unless overridden by the brake pedal.
Cylender: a hollow tube shaped pipe in the engine block where pistons rides up and down to compress the fuel/air mixture that drives the engine.
Cylender head: part above the engine block that contains the combustion chamber and the valves. the spark plug screw into the top or the side of the cylender head. on most cars a valve cover, camshaft cover, rocker-arm cover is located on top of cylender head.

AUTOPEDIA everything you need to know PT.3 (A)

Cam: an egg shaped metal lobe used in the cam shaft to activate the opening and closing of the valves and in the distrubuter to force the points to open.
Cam lobes: the bumps on a camshaft that contact and activate the cylender head intake and the cylender valves. either directly or via such devices as camshaft lifters or push rode.
Camber: a wheel alignment adjustment of the inward and the outward tilt on the top of the wheel when viewed from the front of the car. improves handling and reduces tire wear.
Camshaft: a shaft with cam lobes that causes the valves to open and close.
Camshaft sensor: a trigger device found on some distributor less ignition systems that synchronizes when the proper ignition coil should be fired.
Carburetetor: used in old cars, this is a complex device usually found below the air cleaner that uses a series of flaps and valves to vaporize fuel and mix it with air in proper quantities to suit the varying needs of engine.
Caster: the forward or backward tilt of a car's front wheels that when aligned properly, will make them follow naturally in a straight line. the caster setting is what helps the car to return to straight after cornering.
Catalytic converter: part of the exhaust system, this pollution-control device found in may new cars. it re-burns the unburned gas in the exhaust system before it leaves the vehicle as an exhaust.
Clutch: any device that connects or disconnects power transfer in rotating speed. in a manual transmission, this pedal operated device disconnects the engine from the transmission to allow the car to change gears. and the allows the engine and the transmission to resume contact and turn together at a new speed. clutches also are used in automatic transmission, airconditioners, differentials.
