bmw m5 e39 PICKUP!!!!!!

Stuart Appleby from New South Wales Australia announced that he will be transforming his E39 BMW M5 into the ultimate V8-powered small pick up ever known to man. Now, Mr.Appleby has announced that his BMW M5 pick-up project is finally completed at the expense of one of the most desirable cars of today.

The vehicle has not been dyno-tested but the builders are saying that the M5’s tuned 4.9-liter V8 could be making 460hp at the rear wheels. The chop is surely to affect the handling of a once fine vehicle as pick-up’s are not known to handle like any car carrying the ‘M’ badge but that’s not to say it is not well done, the way it all seems to flow together shows that this project is not the work of amateurs but those who know what they’re doing.

the charming gull-wing renaissance

mercedes has recently taken the wraps off it's latest achievment; the SLS amg gull wing. the newest mec takes the iconic 300 SL gull wing to the nextgeneration and couples it with a mighty 6.3l amg engine. beneath the retro design. besides a v8 power plant, delivering a whopping 571 hp to rear wheels via a seven speed tansaxle-mounted dual clutch gear box. the new mer cockets from 0 to 100km/h in 3.8 sec. while top speed is set in excess of 315 km/h. these weren't possible without a light weight aluminium space frame . also the merc SLS uses a low center of gravity for enhanced handling. the suspension features a 47/53 weight distribution and dual A-arm with track rods at all four wheel ceramics brakes comes as standard equipment. the merc SLS uses a nappa leather, real metal trim, and optional real carbon fiber. the car will strike the show rooms in 2010 IF YOU'RE GETTING EXCITED A PURCHASE .

BEARINGS: anti-friction devices that are usually found between two moving parts to help movement while preventing wear. bearing are found in balls or roller types.

BLEEDING A SYSTEM: to remove air bubbles from a brake system. fuel injection system, or a cooling system so that they don't impede the flow of liquid throuh that system.

BORE: the width or diameter of a cylender hole where gas is burned and pistons are pushed.

BOXER ENGINE: aka flate engine, 180 degree V engine, its an internal combustion engine with pistons that are all relatively horizontal. its was invented and used first by the german engineer karl benz 1896.

BRAKE BOOSTER: if your car has power brakes, a brake booster is located between the brake pedal and the master cylender to increase the force applied to the brakes.

BRAKE CALIPERS: the clamp like device or disk brake system that sqeezes the brake pads onto the brake disc to slow down or stop the car.

BRAKE DISCS: also known as rotors. these are used universally on front braking systems and on some rear braking systems. brake fluid under pressure pushes pistons in brake calipers. which clamp a set of brake pads around one corner of the rotating disc and slow it down .thus slowing down the car.

BRAKE DRUMS: part of the braking system, these are metal drums mounted at the rear wheels on some cars. the brake shoes press against the inner suface of drum to slow or stop the car.

BRAKE FLUID: liquid used in hydraulic brake system to stop or slow the car.

BRAKE LINES: a system of hoses and metal tubes through which the brake fluids flows from master cylender to the brakes at each wheel.

BRAKE LINING: for drum brakes, this is high friction and heat resistant material that's attached to a brake shoe . when the shoe is pressed against the brake drum. the lining grabs the inside of the drum. which stops the wheel and then the car.

BRAKE PADS: for disc brakes, these are friction materials on metal backing plate that, during braking,is clamped around a brake disc by brake calipers pistons to slow down the wheeel to which it is attached .

BRAKE SHOES: curved pieces of metal on which brake lining are bonded. the shoes push the lining against the brake drum in order to slow or stop the car.

BUSHING : a protective liner that provides a cushion between moving metal parts.

sti-ft86

We all know that Toyota teamed up with Subaru on its latest FT86 concept Jeroen posted about last week, but it looks like the rumored Subaru STi version of the car may be the one to wait for. According to Autoblog, where I found this image, the STi version of the car might be ready for the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show and pack a 250 HP EJ25 along with a rear-wheel-drive layout. I wonder if a turbocharged 300+ HP STi AWD variant may be on the cards too?

the hamann california

MODIFYING super sports cars is more than just business for the company HAMANN Motorsport. Their passion for details, for something special and unique is the main incentive for extraordinary modifications. The latest stroke of genius once again confirms this. The HAMANN interpretation of the Ferrari California with its exclusive and extensive MODIFYING programme does not only make the hearts of real Ferrari fans beat faster.
Most of all, the car body kit proves that HAMANN does not only focus on changing the visual appearance, but they also focuse on the aerodynamics and performance. Apart from the body kit design such as a bonnet made of carbon fibre, specific modifications at the front, sides and back boost the aerodynamics. Thereby, the front spoiler reduces the lifting forces of the California which significantly improves the handling and agility. Moreover, the unobtrusive side skirt set calms the airflow between both axles. And moreover, a back spoiler increases the contact pressure. Here, the HAMANN engineers agreed on a small wing profile which considerably enhances the car body design. As the combination with the perfectly integrated and three-part rear diffuser renders enough grip for the road. Mainly on country roads with many curves, the HAMANN aerodynamics kit unravels its power and generates pure driving pleasure.
The extra agility and handling gives room for more performance. Also here, HAMANN-Motorsport contributes its know-how. An adjustment for the motor management is in preparation and a sport exhaust system will also be especially engineered for this sports car .

This combination will increase the performance of the 4.3 v8 engine with (453hp) up tp 20 %.hamann also offered another tuning programme is the multi-part hamann aluminium wheel called EDITION RACE .this wheels are extremly light which allows reducing the unsprung masses which improves both acceleration and braking response.
The recommended wheel-tyre combination measures 9.0Jx21 inches with 245/30ZR21 tyres for the front and 12.5Jx21 rims with wheels measuring 345/25ZR21 are fitted at the back. The wheel-tyre combination is perfectly enhanced by the suspension which is used in order to lower the sports car.

HAMANN has a lot to offer to its customers in the interrior, the company offers an extensive programme, ranging from personalised s to a perfectly finished complete leather interior.

Brazil's Bruno Senna, nephew of the late triple world champion Ayrton, will make his Formula 1 race debut with new team Campos Meta next season

The 26-year-old had said he was talking with the Spanish team at the Brazilian Grand Prix a fortnight ago.
He also spoke to other new teams Lotus and Manor GP, plus one existing outfit.
"It is an extraordinary honour to return the name of Senna to Formula 1," said delighted Campos Meta chief executive Rodriguez de Castro.
"The deal with Senna confirms and re-enforces our prime objective of being not only the first Spanish Formula 1 team, but rather the first Iberian-American F1 team."
Senna said: "I'm absolutely delighted to fulfill a lifetime dream. Now it is time to set new targets."
He finished as runner-up in the 2008 GP2 feeder series and tested with Honda last November before the Japanese manufacturer pulled out of F1 at the end of the year
When the team was rescued by team principal Ross Brawn, he opted to retain the experienced duo of Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello at the expense of the promising Senna.
But two weeks ago, at Interlagos, Senna said: "I'm looking for a team that has the potential to deliver results and consistency.
"It's vital to be in Formula 1 next year as maybe it will be lost if it doesn't happen then."
Senna, who is the son of Ayrton Senna's sister, Viviane Lalli, is driving in the Le Mans sportscar series this season.
He had ruled out a move to the new Lotus F1 team for sentimental reasons alone.
It was with Lotus that Ayrton claimed his first pole position and victory in 1985.
The three-time champion, revered as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, died when he crashed his Williams in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola.

AUTOCROSS

Autocross is a form of motorsports that emphasizes safe, low-cost competition and active participation. An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones, rather than racing on a track with multiple other cars, as in road racing or oval racing. Autocross tends to place more emphasis on car handling and driver skill than on sheer horsepower, and events typically have many classes which allow almost any vehicle, from economy sedans to purpose-built vehicles, to compete. Speeds are slower in absolute terms when compared to other forms of motorsports, usually not exceeding highway speeds, but the activity level (measured in discrete turns per minute) can be higher than even Formula One due to the large number of elements packed into each course. Autocross courses are typically 40 to 70 seconds in length. In addition to being a national-level motorsport in its own right, autocrossing is a good way to learn skills that transfer to road racing, as drivers learn vehicle control and club ethics.

Autocross events are usually held in large paved areas like parking lots or airfields. Typically, new courses are created for each event so drivers must learn a new course each time they compete. Prior to driving, a competitor will walk the course, taking mental notes, and developing a strategy to be refined upon subsequent runs. National organizations such as the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and National Auto Sport Association (NASA) sponsor autocross events throughout the United States, and many areas have independent autocross clubs. Automobile manufacturers and their associated clubs (e.g. the BMW Car Club of America) sometimes hold marque autocross events.

Participation:One of the primary attractions of autocross is that it is an inexpensive way to get involved in motorsports. The potential for car damage is low because of autocross' low average speeds, lack of physical obstacles, and lack of wheel-to-wheel racing. For this reason, most autocross participants compete in "daily drivers", which is not the case in most other forms of motorsport. Many clubs further reduce the barriers to entry by including classes and instruction specifically for novice drivers.

The SCCA has ladies classes for autocross which share the same rules as the open classes but limit participation to women. It is common for husbands and wives, boyfriends and girlfriends, brothers and sisters or even two unrelated drivers to share the same car, but run it in their car's open class and its corresponding ladies class. The SCCA ensures that the ladies class for any given class is never run at the same time as the matching open class, specifically to allow car sharing in this manner. Women are not, however, prohibited from running in the open classes if they desire and many do so quite successfully.

Cars and classing:Classes and rules vary from sanctioning body to sanctioning body, but typically the majority of competitors run lightly modified or unmodified (stock) vehicles. SCCA classing, which is also adopted by many independent clubs, has a variety of Stock classes which range from Super Stock for cars like the Corvette Z06 and Lotus Elise, to H Stock for Honda Civics and Mini Coopers. The Stock classes allow very little change from how the car was originally manufactured; most items that can be changed are the normal wear items (filters, street-legal tires, shocks/struts, ignition wires). Just beyond Stock, there are Street Touring and Street Prepared classes which allow mild modifications, such as those to suspension (wheels, springs, shocks), external engine parts (intakes and exhaust manifolds), and interior (replacement of seats, not removal).
At the other end of the spectrum, the most significantly altered production vehicles that are mostly still street legal are the Street Modified cars, which retain production-based bodies and motors but little else that is stock. Street Modified cars often produce in excess of 350
WHP, can reach 60 mph from a standing start in less than 3.4 seconds, and can corner in excess of 1.7 transient lateral Gs. Prepared class is for production-based full-on race cars with stripped interiors, major suspension changes, heavily modified motors, and true racing slick tires. Typically, Prepared class cars are no longer legal for street use and are trailered to events. The SCCA D- and E-Modified classes also have production car backgrounds, but extend the Street Modified and Prepared allowances to silhouette level, allowing any automotive-based engine, total suspension redesign, and complete replacement of the body (typically with lightweight alloys or composites) as long as the general shape of the original car is still recognizable.
There are usually classes for purpose-built race cars imported from other series (including
Formula Fords, Formula Atlantics, Formula 500s and vehicles similar to American oval-track stock cars
) but most autocross cars are based on production cars.
The fastest autocross cars are purpose-built "specials" (A Modified in SCCA Solo) with small lightweight bodies, sticky tires, wild wings, powerful engines, and short gears. While their top speeds are typically limited by gearing, their transient cornering capabilities far exceed those of vehicles not expressly designed for autocross use.

Related motorsports:In the United States the sport described here is commonly known as autocross (it is also known as "Solo," the SCCA's brand name for it) but other regions of the world have different names for it. Certain parts of Canada and Eastern European countries (Russia, Ukraine, Moldova), for instance, call it autoslalom. In the United Kingdom it is known as autosolo and autocross refers to a similar sport that is held on unpaved surfaces like grass and dirt (also see SCCA RallyCross). In Southeast Asia, countries like Malaysia and Thailand refer to the sport as autokhana.
Motorkhana (as it is known in Australia and New Zealand) and autotesting (UK and Ireland) are related sports. With speeds rarely exceeding 40 mph (60 km/h), both motorkhana and autotesting are slower than American autocross, require handbraking, and have sections that must be negotiated in reverse. On the other hand, autocross speeds can reach over 60 mph (100 km/h) and courses that would require the driver to enter reverse are generally prohibited in autocross. Handbraking is also not usually necessary on a typical autocross course.
These are similar to the Japanese
gymkhana, another type of handling competition. Gymkhanas are even tighter than motorkhanas and autotests, with numerous 360-degree turns around cones and courses that loop back upon themselves. Fast times require a lot of sliding and the end result ends up looking similar to a cross between autocross and drifting. Gymkhanas do not usually require entering reverse gear.
In ProSolo, an SCCA-sanctioned variant of autocross, two cars run side-by side on mirror-image courses after starting at a "Christmas tree" starting system similar to that used in
drag racing.
