BALL JOINTS: a movable joint ffound on the steering linkage and suspension system of the car that permits rotating movement in any direction between the parts that are joined.
BEARINGS: anti-friction devices that are usually found between two moving parts to help movement while preventing wear. bearing are found in balls or roller types.
BLEEDING A SYSTEM: to remove air bubbles from a brake system. fuel injection system, or a cooling system so that they don't impede the flow of liquid throuh that system.
BORE: the width or diameter of a cylender hole where gas is burned and pistons are pushed.
BOXER ENGINE: aka flate engine, 180 degree V engine, its an internal combustion engine with pistons that are all relatively horizontal. its was invented and used first by the german engineer karl benz 1896.
BRAKE BOOSTER: if your car has power brakes, a brake booster is located between the brake pedal and the master cylender to increase the force applied to the brakes.
BRAKE CALIPERS: the clamp like device or disk brake system that sqeezes the brake pads onto the brake disc to slow down or stop the car.
BRAKE DISCS: also known as rotors. these are used universally on front braking systems and on some rear braking systems. brake fluid under pressure pushes pistons in brake calipers. which clamp a set of brake pads around one corner of the rotating disc and slow it down .thus slowing down the car.
BRAKE DRUMS: part of the braking system, these are metal drums mounted at the rear wheels on some cars. the brake shoes press against the inner suface of drum to slow or stop the car.
BRAKE FLUID: liquid used in hydraulic brake system to stop or slow the car.
BRAKE LINES: a system of hoses and metal tubes through which the brake fluids flows from master cylender to the brakes at each wheel.
BRAKE LINING: for drum brakes, this is high friction and heat resistant material that's attached to a brake shoe . when the shoe is pressed against the brake drum. the lining grabs the inside of the drum. which stops the wheel and then the car.
BRAKE PADS: for disc brakes, these are friction materials on metal backing plate that, during braking,is clamped around a brake disc by brake calipers pistons to slow down the wheeel to which it is attached .
BRAKE SHOES: curved pieces of metal on which brake lining are bonded. the shoes push the lining against the brake drum in order to slow or stop the car.
BUSHING : a protective liner that provides a cushion between moving metal parts.

the hamann california
Most of all, the car body kit proves that HAMANN does not only focus on changing the visual appearance, but they also focuse on the aerodynamics and performance. Apart from the body kit design such as a bonnet made of carbon fibre, specific modifications at the front, sides and back boost the aerodynamics. Thereby, the front spoiler reduces the lifting forces of the California which significantly improves the handling and agility. Moreover, the unobtrusive side skirt set calms the airflow between both axles. And moreover, a back spoiler increases the contact pressure. Here, the HAMANN engineers agreed on a small wing profile which considerably enhances the car body design. As the combination with the perfectly integrated and three-part rear diffuser renders enough grip for the road. Mainly on country roads with many curves, the HAMANN aerodynamics kit unravels its power and generates pure driving pleasure.
The extra agility and handling gives room for more performance. Also here, HAMANN-Motorsport contributes its know-how. An adjustment for the motor management is in preparation and a sport exhaust system will also be especially engineered for this sports car .
This combination will increase the performance of the 4.3 v8 engine with (453hp) up tp 20 %.hamann also offered another tuning programme is the multi-part hamann aluminium wheel called EDITION RACE .this wheels are extremly light which allows reducing the unsprung masses which improves both acceleration and braking response.
The recommended wheel-tyre combination measures 9.0Jx21 inches with 245/30ZR21 tyres for the front and 12.5Jx21 rims with wheels measuring 345/25ZR21 are fitted at the back. The wheel-tyre combination is perfectly enhanced by the suspension which is used in order to lower the sports car.
HAMANN has a lot to offer to its customers in the interrior, the company offers an extensive programme, ranging from personalised s to a perfectly finished complete leather interior.

welcome to the ferrari california
The 2009 Best New Convertible Ferrari California is a GT sports car that was launched at the 2008 Paris Motor Show by ferrari . It is a two door hard top convertible. The California is powered by front-mid mounted gasoline direct injection 4.3 L V8, sending a claimed 338 kW (460 PS; 453 hp) to the rear wheels. The car revives the "California" name used for the late-1950s Ferrari 250 GT.
the California represents some new features for the ferrari :
1-the first front v8 engined ferrari
2-the first to have the 7 speed dual clutch transmission
3-the first ferrari with a folding metal roof
4-the first with a multi-link rear suspension
5-the first ferrari with a direct gasoline injection
PERFORMANCE: The California has a top speed of 310 km/h (193 mph) and it can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) under 4 seconds. Although 285 kilograms (628 lb) heavier and 30 PS (22 kW; 30 hp) less powerful than the mid-engined F430, the California reaches 60 mph (97 km/h) in the same time as the F430 thanks to the 7 speed dual-clutch transmission.
AERODYNAMICS: ferrari spent over 1000 hours in the wind tunnel with one third scale model of the ferrari california pefrecting it's aerodynamics . with the top up , ferrari has a drag coefficient of 0.32 which make it the most aerodynamic ferrari ever made.

Brazil's Bruno Senna, nephew of the late triple world champion Ayrton, will make his Formula 1 race debut with new team Campos Meta next season
He also spoke to other new teams Lotus and Manor GP, plus one existing outfit.
"It is an extraordinary honour to return the name of Senna to Formula 1," said delighted Campos Meta chief executive Rodriguez de Castro.
"The deal with Senna confirms and re-enforces our prime objective of being not only the first Spanish Formula 1 team, but rather the first Iberian-American F1 team."
Senna said: "I'm absolutely delighted to fulfill a lifetime dream. Now it is time to set new targets."
He finished as runner-up in the 2008 GP2 feeder series and tested with Honda last November before the Japanese manufacturer pulled out of F1 at the end of the year
But two weeks ago, at Interlagos, Senna said: "I'm looking for a team that has the potential to deliver results and consistency.
"It's vital to be in Formula 1 next year as maybe it will be lost if it doesn't happen then."
Senna, who is the son of Ayrton Senna's sister, Viviane Lalli, is driving in the Le Mans sportscar series this season.
He had ruled out a move to the new Lotus F1 team for sentimental reasons alone.
It was with Lotus that Ayrton claimed his first pole position and victory in 1985.
The three-time champion, revered as one of the greatest Formula 1 drivers of all time, died when he crashed his Williams in the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola.

AUTOCROSS
At the other end of the spectrum, the most significantly altered production vehicles that are mostly still street legal are the Street Modified cars, which retain production-based bodies and motors but little else that is stock. Street Modified cars often produce in excess of 350 WHP, can reach 60 mph from a standing start in less than 3.4 seconds, and can corner in excess of 1.7 transient lateral Gs. Prepared class is for production-based full-on race cars with stripped interiors, major suspension changes, heavily modified motors, and true racing slick tires. Typically, Prepared class cars are no longer legal for street use and are trailered to events. The SCCA D- and E-Modified classes also have production car backgrounds, but extend the Street Modified and Prepared allowances to silhouette level, allowing any automotive-based engine, total suspension redesign, and complete replacement of the body (typically with lightweight alloys or composites) as long as the general shape of the original car is still recognizable.
There are usually classes for purpose-built race cars imported from other series (including Formula Fords, Formula Atlantics, Formula 500s and vehicles similar to American oval-track stock cars) but most autocross cars are based on production cars.
The fastest autocross cars are purpose-built "specials" (A Modified in SCCA Solo) with small lightweight bodies, sticky tires, wild wings, powerful engines, and short gears. While their top speeds are typically limited by gearing, their transient cornering capabilities far exceed those of vehicles not expressly designed for autocross use.
Motorkhana (as it is known in Australia and New Zealand) and autotesting (UK and Ireland) are related sports. With speeds rarely exceeding 40 mph (60 km/h), both motorkhana and autotesting are slower than American autocross, require handbraking, and have sections that must be negotiated in reverse. On the other hand, autocross speeds can reach over 60 mph (100 km/h) and courses that would require the driver to enter reverse are generally prohibited in autocross. Handbraking is also not usually necessary on a typical autocross course.
These are similar to the Japanese gymkhana, another type of handling competition. Gymkhanas are even tighter than motorkhanas and autotests, with numerous 360-degree turns around cones and courses that loop back upon themselves. Fast times require a lot of sliding and the end result ends up looking similar to a cross between autocross and drifting. Gymkhanas do not usually require entering reverse gear.
In ProSolo, an SCCA-sanctioned variant of autocross, two cars run side-by side on mirror-image courses after starting at a "Christmas tree" starting system similar to that used in drag racing.
